Night sky

I kinda remembered two or three weeks ago when I went back to look see the first JAE meeting and the kids were playing this game where they had to try to recognise what was what or where from the photos the organisers took... and I went "WAH, PHOTO OOF!!! *murmurs so close how to focus*" and Ms Koh slapped me on my arm and asked me to be nice saying, "They J1 only leh!!!!" Hehehehehe...

Some of us just love taking the moon, the stars, the sun... Well, I've tried all three and I havent had satisfactory results YET. (I cant believe some people buy mirror lenses just to capture the moon!)

In the mean time, some pictures to share-
(Clicking on the photos to view the larger version is recommended.)

Can actually see the sunrise in this one.

Don't know about you, but this photo reminds me of the time after Adam and Eve got chased out of the garden of Eden. Just lacks two angels guarding with a sword. Ha ha.

According to Kingston, he says there are tripods that can actually rotate at the same angular velocity as the earth if you want to capture a still image of the stars alone. Cool.

Guessed what this is already? Yeah- Northern Lights. That's the thing where the mother bear went to in the movie Brother Bear.

Alrighty, that's all from me today-

History of Photography

I remember seeing the very first photo taken in human history in a book about history of photography some two years back and it had left me a deep impression. Taken in the early 19th century (almost two hundred years ago), it actually amazes me how photography have existed since so long ago- images taken on a pewter plate.

Read more about History of Photography over at National Geographic's website.

National Geographic website and magazines are a good source of photos and an excellent read. Hahaha I've an archive of Nat Geo mags from as early as 1980!

Hey guys, remember we went for a shootout to Punggol beach late last year?
Just sharing some Punggol photos I saw on Clubsnap, good place to go to especially when looking for 2nd hand items.

Okay very tired already, but such a pity I cant find the thread I saw last year, those shots were fantastic; best of all that I've seen. Singapore is a pretty place, if you look hard enough.

The weather this two days are sooooo sunny! Too bad I'm cooped up in that little corner of mine doing stupid reports. I should get a pay rise.

And too bad we didnt choose today to go out to shoot for Pre U sem!

Oh well.

I took this from my kitchen window during dinner. My mom asked me to bring in my socks as we were going out, and when I saw the sunlight, I quickly ran out to grab my camera, click here click there. Clickalicious.

I forgot to mention that on the day (Monday) we met Mr Andrew Tan at Cathay I noticed a very familiar looking photo hung in the Cathay Photo's display window... It was a red car parked at the double yellow line lane and it took me a few seconds to realise I've seen it either in VJC photog noticeboard or our own interjc or the RJC inter JC competition... But the name definitely rings a bell- Sng Kia Jit from VJC. The photo won first prize in a Colours competition. The photo wasnt anything interesting but it fit into the theme of colours for the vibrancy, and I bet Chay Teng's vase can fight his photo. Lol.

It's time to start joining competitions out there, I know everyone can do it and win something and so MJC Photog proud. I'm proud of all you photog kids, so go get'm!

P.S. I'll try to post up any suitable competitions on going here for your information as and when possible.

Today Mr T, G and i went to take some outdoor shots around singapore cos Ms Lai got GRAND plans for Pre U Sem... Global City Home For All... Ooohhhh... *wave hands in the air*

We met at 0830 to discuss the possible places to go and some ideas... wa.... say until like pattern liao liao... want shoot plane flying past from underneath la, shoot lao uncles with many many bird cages in tiong bahru la, shoot city people walking left right right left using slow shutter speed la, shoot MRT people enter exit with slow shutter speed so the people inside r clear la, shoot singapore flyer with sunset in the backdrop la... we wanted to "shoot what other people never think of or shoot before one"...

but Ti Aw Aw (sky dark dark) -.- sian jit bua...

First stop, we went to Canopy Walk at Kent Ridge Park. it was a v nice leisurely walk but not nice to shoot cos it was misty misty everywhere and there was hardly anyone so we had to pose for each other. figured that 3 choose 2 = 3 combinations. hahaha... then Mr T wanted to shoot this couple but they were like gui gui sui sui refused to let him shoot so he gave up... i figured they probably are having an affair and went there for rendezvous la! hahaha! then we climbed up to see the port but again, mong mong everywhere.... sians. i managed to convince one family to let me shoot them but they walked so fast ALL blur la... my pics are CMI...

Then went tiong bahru to shoot lao uncles n their bird cages... the place closed liao... found a bird shop opp queensway SC, asked uncle n he said, "jin tian xia yu tong tong shou qi lai le!" (today rain everyone keep their cages le) -.- diao had this fried fish for lunch... supposed to be pomfret but felt like rock fish... G said i "gen yu da jia" (fight w fish)! LOL then Mr T got lost there and we turned here turned there round n round like in a labyrinth, almost couldn't come out! hahaha

Since it was drizzling, we decided to do indoor shoots so went to changi airport (i also don't know why...) T3 and on the day when we want many many people (u know how irritating it is when we go out on weekends n feel the whole singapore went out to play?), everyone super not cooperative today all stay at home donno do wat! not a single soul! -.- take sky train go T2, not a single ghost. take back to T3... -.- wasted trip man.

So we thought ok ok, go City Hall MRT there sure got many people can do the slow shutter speed thingy... but... again... WHERE IS EVERYONE?????? went to shoot INSIDE MRT station kena chased by station control aunty who MADE me delete my pics... sheesh.... she also told Mr T but he acted blur quickly chao off! jiang hai shi lao de la! haha

Climbed to rooftop of esplanade hoping to shoot something nice but then there is this giant eyesore-of-a-crane right smack in the middle... -.- then started drizzling again.... Mr T suggested going to shoot Merlion i was like -.- bu hui ba! so cliche.... *slap forehead* but heck la... let's walk there n as we got down to ground floor from rooftop, it stopped drizzling -.- Mr T scolded the sky in his malaysian accent! hahaha so funny....

we decided heck la, lousy weather.... go gai gai la so went cathay photo, met Mr Andrew Tan there n G n I were like so excited watching people spend money to buy things cos we're broke ma! haha.... we declared ourselves Mr T's god daughters although i am also G's godma... G will be called "ben dan" and i am "xiang ji"! hahaha.... also named Mr T n my tripod... his will be Anakin, mine Luke... ah ha ha ha!

i can count with ONE hand the number of shots that can "see people".... -.-

Huan dao zhui zhui zhui

Today the qing tian pi li, grandmaster of photography- Mr Tee, Ms Koh and I went out to shoot around Singapore for pre-u sem with the theme Singapore- Global City something something for All. Before we set out this morning we were listing out the possible places to shoot, and WAHHHH there are endless possible places to shoot...

Too bad tian bu zuo mei leh...
Sky not nice. *Sings Ti orh orh*
And today is a monday! Want shoot people also difficult siaa... Go MRT station outside shoot also kena chase. Sad case.
Changi Airport BO LANG!!!
Whole day rain rain rain rain, cloudy cloudy sky grey grey one, want go climb longkang shoot Singapore flyer also cannot! KNS...

In the end we went to shoot the cliched MERLION *peng, I cant believe it*, esplanade and whatsoever... The three of us had to be models for our own photographs... -.-

Today was super unproductive... I shot a grandtotal of ONE photo. ONE!! Can you believe it...? *slap forehead* It's the above posted photo la... Which I thought was quite nicely composed and edited.

Hehehehe then we went walk around Cathay and Camera Workshop, see a SLIK carbon tripod that I like neh, got padding and it's super light... Then I saw the Gitzo, WAHHHH I liked it even more... Considering I lugged qing tian pi li's manfrotto that was even heavier than the club's green tripod while the both of them happily used their Gitzos... T_T

Met Mr Andrew Tan at Cathay and Ms Koh was trying to influence him to get a B+W UV filter. *tiiongggg....* OH and sigma 50mm f2.8 macro SGD400 plus, 15-30mm dunno 600 plus or 900 plus la, cant remember liao... Hehehehehe.... And Mr Tee say I can be his god daughter leh! I am now qing tian pi li, grandmaster of photographer's god daughter liao, and Ms Koh is my gan ma... =P

This two god parents bery good de, one can borrow his camera, one know where to eat and cook the good stuff... *most blessed person on earth*
After spending one whole day with Mr Tee, I'm starting to catch his lian bang chinese... Ji gou li hai yi xia leh!

Elections

With a blink of the eye, it's March already! Golly... Time really waits for no man... (but I woman leh. hey, WAIT!!!!) Just when you think you just had your first meeting with the club, then POOOF! you're running for EXCO already.

The mention of EXCO elections just makes me excited. Hehehehe...
As I was telling Cherish today- the job of a senior is very simple =P
Only need to do a few things:
1. Bully your junior
2. Tekan your junior
3. Think as many ways to tekan your junior as possible.

But lucky kids, you all dont have seniors who chase you down to pinch...
Or call you kuching...

Oh well, although I'm not part of the club anymore, I still find the elections highly interesting. Mainly because the juniors have such brilliant ideas, and their statements are sometimes highly entertaining. For me, at least.

And yes, I asked Kingston whether he wants to form a Photography Club Alumni today. He asked me to set one up. (sighs, people say 'once a saikang warrior, always a saikang warrior'.) He said once boys cut their hair in NS will become stupid. Shave already, 60% intelligence gone, wear helmet 40% gone. By then, become idiot already. THEN HE STILL WANT BE PRESIDENT! -.-|||

I was at Cathay Photos today so i for fun asked the uncle,

me: "How much is the 50mm f/1.2L?"
uncle: the best price i can give you is $2..
me: *WA!!! start w 2 nei!!!! good ah! i can afford!!!*
uncle: $2XXX
me: -__________-||| *4 digit... sheesh* oh er... how about the f/1.4?
uncle: $5XX
me: ooohhh... k thanks

$5XX -.- haiz... so poor, cannot afford lens... continue bu yao lian use club lens ba...

then i checked out the tripods. saw two that i find not bad...Manfrotto 190MF4 ($585) and Manfrotto 190MF3 ($555) include ball head. not bad hor? they have the gitzo one that looks like the gitzo traveler titanium nei! *drool* except it's carbon fibre... but so ex, twice the price of the manfrotto ones... but half the weight la...

go back use my lousy $35 olympus one first -.-

Hi y'all Photog peeps out there!
Just want to say a BIG HELLO to all the new photog kids this year! (If there are actually any readers out there.... errr.... ya.)

It may seem cool that there is a horde of photographers at every event (when I say every, I mean EVERY. No kidding hor.) and it seems like an easy task... Afterall, we're "just taking photos". NO IT'S NOT COOL!...

Actually it is lar.
You're the fortunate 3% of the school population, hand picked by our dear Papa Cheng, to have the chance to use tok kongly big cameras. (tok kong=super)

Some people say it's cool to see things differently through a camera lens. NO IT SHOULDNT BE SO!...

Actually it's so...
Photography has never ending possibilities. What determines a good photo has many dimensions to it; lighting, contrast, colours, so on and so forth. Sometimes undesirable dirt can seem desirable. Sometimes undesirable lens abbreviation can seem desirable, and even cool. (Looking at JoHo's pictures is sufficient to make me drool...) But what's the most important is composition. If your composition sucks, so sorry... The photo is ruined. And another thing about photography is that it has to tell a story. (Like what I used to tell the J2s) You wont want to shoot a photo with many many things inside, but no focus and the person looking at it has got totally no idea what you want to shoot. That is not good.

No good at all.

And yes, dont break anything that belongs to the club. The exco will wring you dry to pay for the stuff. I mean it. Quentin bites.

So remember children, the next time when you shoot for an event, look out for individual expressions (use a telephoto lens if you have to) that tells a story about the event happening. Dont kamikaze anyhow shoot 1GB of photos back, you'll feel about one-tenth of Shan Shan's pain.

Play with light. Fire away, children!

(P.S. In case you didnt know, I'm the girl in pink today.)
