Open Judging
Then again, it was rather interesting to see the photos which made it for the finals, ablit rather pissing when you see some rather sucky photos and not yours...lols... It ain't exciting if you dun see ur photos in the finals..
And yes, the point of the whole post is cos I wanna complain!! I don't know how many times I have seen those cliche photos of the war memorial at city hall and the esplandae bridge. And no matter how overuse or over shot (its practally the same composition!!!) it always wins or at least gets into the finals!! Damn!.. Seriously, it came out for the Microsoft Vista Competition, for the 2 SYPA compeitions and many many more!! (ok la.. not so many, but then again, got how many compeitions?) Grrr...
Den I mentione that they have a different set of judges who selected the final pics?? and I reckon they didn't pull out the big shots to select the final photos..so end up, you have a final set of photos which aren't really the best...den you have a good panal of judges to judge a poor set of photos.. kinda dumb though...
haha...but of cos.. of some nice pics la...ohh well.. maybe i'm just a lil' pissed my photo didn't turn up.. sigh...
Btw, you might wanna note that they did mention they dun like over PP-ed photos, esp the heavily sat kinds.. they prefer natural tones and i noticed, BW pics, seems to get a slightly better response...
Ohh well.. L.L. suck thumb :P

Memoir.T
On second thought, I ain't a gd storyteller, so I think I'll save you all the torture, though if u wanted to know, you can always ask me..^^..
Anways, just some background on the slideshow, it was done in one and a half day...cos PPC last min, kena arrow, and hence he also last min arrow me...lols... but hiya.. after all, for Mr Tee.. cannot say no also.. haha..
The backdrop in the flash, contrary to what some ppl think, I didn't rip it off the net... It was a pic I took specially for the flash. The Lomo cam on the top, the Illford PAN 400 film on the top left and the Hot Shots book on the left were the gifts me and Eunice bought on behalf of PPC, that Ms Lai presented to Mr. Tee during the farewell assembly. The rest was just my sis's table and stationary..and of cos she was pissed that I messed up her table and all.. but ohh well:P...
And if you liked the soundtrack, its titled "Old Pal ~Aishuu~" from this anime called Bartender, which is a outstanding anime..I'd give it like 5/5.. so if ur into anime, go watch this...
And as for the "polaroid photos", the photos were edited in Lightroom then sent over to photoshop to be "assembled" to add the text and the "lighting effects" and rotated.
And of cos, animated in flash. Ohh well, I'm just glad that ppl liked it:P... and for those who aren't too interested abt how it came into existence, and just wanna watch it again with the words readable, here you go: https://rcpt.yousendit.com/613977669/3bad7004b4c0e2ca16aca1a7666e38ec
Its a flash file bundled with a windows projector a.k.a. .exe file, so yes, you need a windows PC to view it...to play, unzip and open the exe file, its auto fullscreen... Pls note that if your viewing it other than 1280x960, then the graphics will be poor, pls set scaling to 100%
Enjoy...
Edit: Okies okies.. I know, I know.. a Mac version rite.. kk.. coming rite up..sheesh...what a troublesome bunch of people...:P
Edit 2: Okies, for all you Apple fanboys out there...: https://www.yousendit.com/download/bVlBZUNsaTF3NUx2Wmc9PQ

Life as a Photoger.
hello bloggy :D
okay this sounds a lil gay but nevermind heheh.
anyway today we had fantabulous open house heheh.
its like the first big thing for the lil exco kids.
& initially everything seems like its a smooth journey.
but...
!!!!
many many many problems appreared omgz.
1. lack of lens to display at the booth.
cause apparently all are out for events & studio.
2. exhibition @ booth.
cause we totally didnt do it beforehand.
but this made us dig out some totally cool pic by alumni when they were just like us.
jun sen's the proud guy w many many pretty pics lah (& name card that only he & eunice have, envious leh).
3. sudden departure of the card reader.
no card reader = cannot load pics T_T
then how we print & sell leh leh leh.
but we managed to get one from PPC heheh.
then ell, van, chin & i tried this dry run, which was so CMI.
FYI: CMI = cant make it.
but it solved some small probs that we will face.
all the irritating technical stuffs T_T
finally the real thing starts whee heheh.
& i was screaming not knowing to go for mass dance or stay :x
but i stayed anyway :D :D :D
but we had no customers, had to guard the whole half of the study room myself.
which is a very very boring job i also wanna run out T_T
or maybe go play games w the IGC people cause they seem so happy :/
but imagine all the stuffs lying ard lonely-ly w/o care & if PPC comes in.....
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so no choice gotta guai guai stick my butt to the chair T_T
didnt get to see my miranda dance ARGH.
then shir & i went to parade our cute cute poster ard the sch.
everyone seems amused & uninterested so we went back to wait for the rabbit under the tree (some chi idiom).
& after long long long long,we finally cheated some girls in heheh :D
and then, groups after groups of people came in,soooooo busyyyyy heheh.
money money money also come in heheh.
& then problems surfaced ):
1. shortage of manpower
too many things,too lil people.
2. selphy gets hot so fast zzz.
maybe can put a laptop fan under it, so can print faster + better.
3. cf cards looks the same when you're busy T_T
end up they were not properly circulated.
& sorry van i lost your pretty pic ):
maybe can have like sushi belt heheh so the cf cards go one round.
can circulate drinks also cause very thirsty -_-
4. & people are indecisive so had to wait long long.
end up very very stressed T_T
and crowded in the lil corner.
but then again,i think we really learn alot alot.
esp for the promy night heheh.
learnt many many today :D
I LOVE EXCO MANY MANY.
& thank you alumni for helping us heheh :D
plus chin chye who made things possible also :D
P.S. i think this post is too long alr heheh.
thank you for whoever who made it to the end.
i really tried to make it short & sweet heheh.
oh oh oh!

Vietnam Trip
I've gotten another quote from STA (a different vendor). They are able to put together a 6D/5N trip for S$1k. I kinda prefer this vendor as they have been used by Photographic Society of Singapore thus they are more well verse in knowing what photographers might want.
This is the proposed itinerary.
Day 01
( Dinner )
Overnight Train
Singapore / Hanoi
Meet at the airport this morning and depart for your flight to Hanoi. Upon arrival, meet the local guide then head for tour around the city. Visiting the Museum of Ethnology. Proceed for dinner. After dinner head to train station and board the soft sleeper train to Lao Cai.
Day 02
( Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner )
Arrive Lao Cai - Sapa
Upon arrival at Lao Cai, proceed to Sapa by van. Check in hotel. After breakfast, head to Cat Cat Village by van.
Day 03
( Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner )
Sapa
Walking around Sapa area in the morning. In the afternoon trek to a hilltribe and overnight at the hilltribe. Trek from Sa Pa to Y Ling Ho - Lao Chai - Ta Van. Homestay at Ta Van Village.
Day 04
( Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner )
Overnight Train
Sapa – Hanoi
Head back to Sapa travelling through some villages. Free time to roam in the market before heading to train station for sleeper train back to Hanoi
Day 05
( Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner )
Arrive Hanoi
Drop bags at the hotel and head to the Old Quarter. Head to Dong Xuan Market in the afternoon. In the evening, after dinner, proceed to Water Puppet Show.
D06
( Breakfast )
Hanoi / Singapore
Free at leisure till departure transfer to airport
I'm proposing that we either travel somewhere between 27/11 - 02/12 or 09/12 - 14/12. What I need is Quentin and Elliot to confirm the number of members who can go and can afford. (For alumni members, we can only confirm the trip based on the number of present mjc students who can go)
For those who find that 1k is expensive for Vietnam, pls check the newspapers. Many tours to Vietnam are already near to 1k and that's not inclusive of tax. Please do not compare with last year's Perth trip. If we are to go this year, it will cost about 1.8k. Blame it on inflation and fuel surcharge... Lastly we are going for a photography trip and not a shopping trip, so no Hong Kong and places like that.
If the response is not good, then there will simply be no trip.
So Elliot and Quentin, pls email me the response this Friday (29th August).

RePLaY\\\\\\
before i forget again, i was taking a look at the previous entry of all the stuff that the j2s used to do during the photog meetings and make it more lively, and i remembered how the j1s got dismissed during the meetings of the earlier months, for example, when we get back to the art and craft room to be officially dismissed:
chee howe: okok! all of you can go home now.. faster go go go!! -shoos everyone off-
kingston: -in his typical refined and kingly manner- no no, cannot say like that.. must tell them.. okay, the meeting is over.. thank you very much for coming.. now you can go home.. ^^
* and yesterday when the new ex co was packing some cameras for those who were taking them for the hols*-yong en staring at the multitudes of lenses..-
kingston: do you know what are the different lenses that we have?
yong en: uh..
kingston: name all the lenses
yong en: o.O uhh.. uhh..
kingston: -names all the lenses- (dunnowhat) mm, (dunnowhat)mm, etc mm, blah blah blah mm, kit lens mm, mm mmm mmmmm ...
yong en: -still o.O-
me: ZOMG WTF BBQ PWNAGE!!!!!!!! -eyes very big-
pres: kingston stop showing off.... =_=
*after what seems like ten million years, and still haven't packed finish*
eunice: eh are we done yet??- no reply, everyone still packing or looking very stoned-
eunice: HEY ARE WE DONE?? A HUNGRY PERSON IS AN ANGRY PERSON!!!
*on club rules*
first meeting during PAE..
chee howe: no eating inside the art room or the club room -eats pineapple tart-
five minutes into the first meeting during JAE..
chee howe: and everyone has to be here on time!!
someone: i see mr cheng coming!! quick go close the door!!
chee howe: no no wait!!!!! -waits until mr cheng walks in--increase volume- AND HERE IN PHOTOGRAPHY WE EXPECT EVERYONE OF YOU TO BE HERE ON TIME!! AT 2.30, NOT AT 2.35!!!! coughcoughcough
*when kingston gave out his number*
kingston: ok my number is.. (blah blah blah)
chee howe: WAH kingston now got so many girls have your number!! xDDD
*when chee howe was watching the first few scenes in 300*
chee howe: !!!!!! -takes cd cover and blocks his eyes from the screen-
everyone: -____-"
chee howe: wait wait, what's happening now!
someone (i can't remember xD): you dont block your eyes then you see la!
chee howe: cannot cannot! very scary!! got that funny creature there!
eunice: it's a BEAR
chee howe: bear where got look like that!! why not like my teddy bear de!! -covers eyes again-
*when watching some suspense scene in POTC*
everyone: -watching very closely-
chee howe: *BURP*
everyone: wth anti-climax xia!!
*when using the cutter for the passport photos*
kingston:... and then you (blah blah blah), (etc etc etc), then cut the photos, okay?
me: okay ^^ -tries to cut- uhh.. the thing wont move.. >_>
kingston: -presses cutter down with my hand still stuck between his hand and the cutter-
me: OWW WTH!!!! PAIN!!!! (x.x)"
kingston: nevermind just put the cutter on the table and press on top of it..
me: okay.. -ouchies-
kingston: good for your arm muscles wat.. later can go do your inclined pull ups :D
*on counting the exhibition photos*
-everyone 100% confused 'cos the numbers didn't tally-
chee howe: wait wait! everyone go back and count!!
- after counting for what seems like ten million times, and still doesn't tally-
chee howe: okay! everyone start from the first and count every single one!
-entire ex co goes counting from the first to the last one at the same time.. super xD-
*when in c2-1*
-chee howe spots computer chair, sits on it, and starts spinning in and out of the classroom-
haha...I bet yong en can name all the lenses we have now..lols...

last year's bbq
Okey, I admit, we weren't so prepared for the barbecue so many things were done on the day itself and haha, here, you can see us marinating the chickens on the spot:
The marinated chickens...
When the fire had started, we started to cook the food.Chef Quentin was doing the hotdogs...
And Chay Teng was making sure the chickens don't get burnt. We took turns on ensuring that the food will be cooked perfectly but somehow, I think we burnt most of the chickens although Chee Howe had taught us the technique to see if the chicken is already cooked. Haha!
The fatty ingredients used for bbq...
It's hard to see but yeah, those are the seniors, sitting around a table, waiting for food to be served... I hope you guys did enjoy the farewell last year! ((:Friday, June 20, 2008
100th Post
Wa, I just touched down from Narita Tokyo and my post is the 100th!! ^^
I bought a 5D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .... for Mr Wong's uncle la -_______- helped him buy, test and lug back -________-||| It's quite cheap about $3K+ for body. I got a 50mm f/1.8 too! ^^ (from Singapore before flying off) here's a photo taken with the lens which i like (Eunice also says it's nice):

i did however buy a 15mm f/2.8 there... bombarded Eunice with loads of smses to ask her to check prices for me and settled on buying that. i smsed PPC too but think cos i didn't email him one week in advance and sms him 3 days before, he didn't reply *grumble grumble* quite a good deal nei. i signed up for the membership card which earns 8% cash rebate (stored on the card) that can be used for the next purchase... so got about SGD$300 from the 5D which i used to off-set the 15mm and still earn another about SGD$80 which i used to get a pair of headphones for free... now still got about SGD$60 not used... valid for two years... not bad... better than duty-free... haha
i was also considering the 70-200mm f/2.8L with IS which costs about $1.8k but... but... but... got no money... was in a state of dilemma... between shopping in Ginza and lens... I... *look and feel ashamed, avoid eye contact* I.... I.... chose... Ginza!
hm... i see many people using Nikon there... and oh, i brought back some Nikon brochures for the Nikonians ^^ (er... that was what i told Mr Wong but it's cos Takuya Kimura is on the cover =P)
i bought chocolate mochi for u guys ^^ (is muah chee halal? i'm not sure nei... if not got other snacks also ^^)
finally, i REALLY SALUTE all of you who use FILM *21 flash shot + bow* cos i think i clicked like 1000 times in Japan... imagine if i had used film... die... how much will that cost? LOL

MJ Photographers at the Zoo!
by Ng Jun Sen / Alumni
Just a mere week after the gathering at Mr Cheng's house, Meridian Junior College student photographers were once again on the field covering another assignment. This time, the Singapore Red Cross has requested for the help of four photographers from the MJC Photography Club to cover the World Blood Donor Day on the 14th of June, 2008.
A team of five photographers from the Club was assembled for this event, comprising of Victoria, Mumtaz, Humairah, Aida and Chin Chye. In addition, the force was augmented by three Alumni members, Kingston, Chee Howe and Jun Sen, who were present to provide support for the above operation.
The event commenced at 8:30am, and as the Singapore Red Cross busied themselves with the preparations, the photographers proceeded to recce the ground. With a carnival to cover and a shoot-and-print booth to man, there was much to do for this day. Photographer Jun Sen had this to say, "Wah lao sure damn sian one! I think I'll go take pictures of the animals instead."
The photo booth was placed at the entrance of the zoo, with printing services provided by Hewlett Packard. Visitors to the Zoo could have their pictures taken with the Red Cross Mascot, Blood Buddy, and have them printed free-of-charge. Photographer Chin Chye said this, "Blood Buddy? No, its pronounced Bloody!"
After a quick briefing and crash course, the event started proper and the Meridian JC photographers carried on with their various taskings. Eventually, the photographers found themselves taking pictures of Pygmy Hippos rather than guest-of-honours.
"Aiyer! So cute!", said Photographer Victoria, referring to the African elephants in one of the displays.
The photographers visited the gibbons, white tigers, kangaroos and more. The crowd turnout was spectacular. There were the regular tourists, invited guests of the World Donor Day celebrations as well as volunteers for the event. Scientists gave a rough estimate that at one point of time there were 13 million people in the zoo.
The carnival ended at 6pm. Some of the photographers got lost and some who wore slippers stepped on what scientists believe was mud. Eventually, everything came to a close and went home happy.
