The Stars in China

Have you ever seen this many stars in Singapore? I bet you haven't. The stars my mates and I saw on one night during a week's long photography trip to Fujian, China were literally countless. It was definitely an eye-opening experience for me. I even saw a shooting star for the very first time!

"It's not about the equipment that you use, it's how you use it."

Hi everybody!! How's 2013 been so far?? :P Here's some videos that I found that are pretty interesting!! :P
Pro Camera, Noob Photographer (Model shoots a Nikon D3S)

I got a new toy too, CB!

Answering CB's call for new posts.. hihi!! It's me! The un-named lao (really, really lao) jiao has resurfaced after three grueling months of tertiary studies!!

Ahem. Anyway, like CB, I got a new toy too! It's a Leica IIIF RD and a Voightlander 15mm f/ 4.5 Cosina Super-Wide Heliar.

-inserts technical jargon-

Some pics that I've shot with my lovely "new" old camera! :D

First two pics are from Bukit Brown, and the third pic is the view from my room in Hall! What can I say, I really do love wide angle lenses :D

Where did the party go?!

Hey hey! Why got nobody post on this blog anymore? Lets revitalise this place! Juniors, excos, laojiaos all come and post! Everyone post one photo is good enough!

Hahas anyway, here I am again after going missing for so long (don't have much time or chance to shoot during NS). Missed me? I know you people did. Don't be shy. Hahaha.

Some of you might already know, others might not, but I got a new toy recently, and that's my Nikon D600 with 24-120mm G. For those who are unfamiliar with the Nikon system, its around the same league as the Canon 6D with 24-105mm L, though I do hear that the D600 is superior to the 6D in several aspects.. Either way, I'm not here to start a debate of Canon vs Nikon. There's enough where that came from already. I'm here to share a picture, something which  I haven't done in ages.

This is from Standard Chartered Annual Dinner and Dance 2012, which I recently had the chance to cover. It was shot in RAW, processed firstly using ViewNX2 then Photoshop CS4. Nothing was done to it other than white balance correcting, upping the contrast sharpening, RAW conversion and noise reduction.

Shoot more, people. Then post more!

A photographer's story-telling.

Hi peepos! Congrats to the J1s who've completed their promos, and all the best for Mother Tongue As and PW OP! J2s, hope y'all had a memorable graduation ceremony/celebration and all the best for As! Believe in y'all ^^

Anyway, my friend shared this inspiring TED video with me, it prompts us to give more thought of photography as a tool not just for entertainment, but also to raise awareness of others' plight and all. Which was what I experienced especially when I first went to Cambodia as one of the three MJPhotog peeps on an OCIP trip. Definitely an eye-opener, I'm sure the J2s who went there last year share similar sentiments. (;

So yeaps here's the video:

If y'all have any photography-related videos, interesting photos, or inspiring photographers (of any types of photography, for example, fashion, journalistic, landscape) do share as well. ^^ Sharing is caring :B

Cheers.

Medium Format & Large Format Exhibition

Hi fellow photogers,

There is a exhibition coming up this month showcasing works made on medium and large format cameras, do  drop by to take a look (cos my photo is being exhibited.. :P). Medium and large format cameras give a totally different perspective compared to the kind of photos you get on a 35mm camera; DSLR for those of you who lost me right at the start.

In short, there will be many pretty photos and it will be a good chance to widen your horizon about photography. Photography does not revolve around your camera and kit lens!!

Eos magazine

EOS Magazine

We would be choosing 10 photos for the EOS magazine by Sunday night 12/8/12 from the group's page, do post your best photos now!

The key objectives of the EOS Academy Magazine include:
1)       Provide a platform for students to showcase their photography works
2)       Inspire learning among the student photography community
3)       Encourage students to keep taking photos, not just during CCA time.

The magazine will be tabloid size, bigger than A4 but smaller than A3, similar to those tabloid magazines in Hong Kong.
There will be 4 issues per year, once every quarter.

The magazine will be distributed to All the schools in Singapore: Primary, Secondary, JCs, ITEs, Polys, Universities, International Schools.
5 copies per school. It’s free, no charges!

We thought of having between 12 to 16 schools’ photography clubs to come onboard for the first issue.

The content of the magazine will include the following segments:

1)       Cover Story
Profile a Professional Photographer in each issue.
Besides showing some of his/her works, he/she will share insights into their world of photography.

2)       Gallery
This is where we will dedicate a page to each participating school to showcase its’ students’ works.
Between 3 to 7 photos can be featured here.

3)       Latest Gear
Review of Canon’s lastest camera. This is product review, not just listing of the product specifications.
It will be more insightful.

4)       Events
Feature Canon-related school events. Eg, VJC Expose, Montage, etc.

5)       Featured School
We will select a school to share about their photography practices or interesting photography projects which they were engaged with.
Eg, Oversea photography trips.

6)       Photography Tips
Of course, how can we not have photography tips for the students?

The key component is the Gallery page. A page will be dedicated to our school to showcase our works.

So what do you have to do?

After that, simply go to www.canon.com.sg/eosworld
-          Sign up as members and join MJC photography group
-      Start uploading

There won’t be any theme and only photos taken by Canon Cameras will be selected.

Remember to click “Share with Groups” so that the photo can be viewed in the group page.

If you have any problems, feel free to contact me

Hello J1 Photographers

This is the first post from the new exco to you guys and it won't be anywhere near the last :)
Thanks for all the support you guys have given us throughout the rallies and we would do our best in the year to come.

As you guys have heard, we are taking part in Montage, a competition organised by NUSPS with 'No Boundaries' as the theme. We would like you guys to take part in it enthusiastically as this competition is not only individual but also has a inter-school element to it which is the Yip Hoi Kee School Challenge. MJC won it in 2008 and 2009 and we hope to win it again in 2012. The submission deadline is 20 may 2012, 2359 hours. More details can be found here: http://montage.sg/2012/

What do you need to do??? (IMPORTANT !!!)
1) Come up with some ideas/concepts on what you would want to shoot
2) Think of some of the places you would want to go to capture these ideas you have
3) Share your ideas with your group members this Wednesday, 9 May

We would be having an outing this Friday, 11 May, location would be decided in your teams this Wednesday. Come to Photog with some ideas in mind and Have Fun !!!

 Your Fun loving VP,
Andy

Shutter

"Scheimpflug Employees Jason Kolsch, and Jayson Jordan unboxed the Nikon D4 and made a quick movie, capturing it using the Phantom Gold with Zeiss CP2 Macro lenses. The scene was lit with a K5600 Joker 800, and two 400’s. Colby Moore was the Phantom Technician and editor."
