Equerry by Arbernoir

Hmmm, since there haven't been any new posts lately, I shall post some pics from a while back; this was the photography component for my friend's FYP (for some fashion design school) entitled Equerry by Arbenoir.

Hello J1 Photographers

This is the first post from the new exco to you guys and it won't be anywhere near the last :)
Thanks for all the support you guys have given us throughout the rallies and we would do our best in the year to come.

As you guys have heard, we are taking part in Montage, a competition organised by NUSPS with 'No Boundaries' as the theme. We would like you guys to take part in it enthusiastically as this competition is not only individual but also has a inter-school element to it which is the Yip Hoi Kee School Challenge. MJC won it in 2008 and 2009 and we hope to win it again in 2012. The submission deadline is 20 may 2012, 2359 hours. More details can be found here: http://montage.sg/2012/

What do you need to do??? (IMPORTANT !!!)
1) Come up with some ideas/concepts on what you would want to shoot
2) Think of some of the places you would want to go to capture these ideas you have
3) Share your ideas with your group members this Wednesday, 9 May

We would be having an outing this Friday, 11 May, location would be decided in your teams this Wednesday. Come to Photog with some ideas in mind and Have Fun !!!

 Your Fun loving VP,
Andy

RETRO-fit

What happens when you hack an antique folding camera lens to a 5D Mark II?
The results are pretty amazing.

Assignment 2

My fellow J1 comrades,

Great teacher has proclaimed that you will need to submit your photos (as mentioned in Assignment 1) if you have yet to do so. Please also bring your laptop (if you have one) with software installed for next lesson and have some photos (at least 5-10) ready for use in class.

Those who refuse to heed will be sent to do hard labour in Siberia.

Your fellow comrades,
Kingston and Eunice

Here comes.... Assignment 1! (not graded, la.)

Great photos posted on the previous post about the Cambodia trip! I'm kind of disappointed that none of these photos were sent in for the 10th Anniversary Exhibition... Please, next time do send your photos in! They are really good. I particularly loved Valerie's buffaloes in the forest shot.

As for the J1s, here's your assignment for the next lesson. There will be a photo critic session for the next lesson, so for those who are not shooting for the 10th Anniversary event, please do the following:

1. Go take some photos over the next few days. It can be anything, people, flowers, pets, street shots, scenery. Remember the compositional rules I taught you!

2. Choose ONE best photo that you have taken so far.

3. Send it in to this email address: mjcphotog.alumni@gmail.com with your name and subject "Assignment 1".

4. Do this by Tuesday midnight LATEST.

5. No editing needed =)

For the J1s who are shooting for the 10th Anniversary event, please do the following:

1. Look for Eunice and Kingston at the clubroom at 2pm. We will brief you on what will be happening. (If you need to borrow any additional equipment, please clear this with your J2 Exco.)

2. After you return home, also choose THREE to FIVE best photos that you have taken on that day that can show the rest of the club what happened at the event.

3. Send it in to the same email address: mjcphotog.alumni@gmail.com with your name and subject "10th anniversary event photos"

4. Do this by Tuesday midnight, latest.

5. No editing needed.

Okay, that's all folks! See you guys tomorrow!

Basic Photography & The Alumni Exhibition

What a long day!! As I mentioned today in class, you can download today's slides here --> Click me!!

After the photog lessons, Eunice, Chin Chye and I went to the photog room to prepare for the Alumni Exhibition that is coming up this Sat.. Among all the exhibitions that we have done, this one probably takes the prize for the highest budget and quality. The frames themselves; from Ikea, costs almost $14 bucks each and that is considered super budget for a frame already (custom frames usually costs over $100 bucks and standard sized wood ones with good workmanship costs around $50).. Unfortunately, because they were budget and off-the-shelf, the cover glass were really dirty and had water marks all over.. So Chin Chye and I painstakingly washed and dried ALL the cover glass by hand. I really feel for the Chinese workers polishing the iPhone glass screens all day long... One good reason not to buy an iPhone NOR the new iPad...:P

Also.. because the glass was budget too... the edges were not buffered and we both got minor cut wounds while washing and drying the cover glass... Ouch!!
We literally poured our sweat and blood into this one...
Yes, so this exhibition, is not just any exhibition; it is a limited edition exhibition; one of the kind with my DNA all over the prints and frames ;) hope you enjoy it... Buy the prints if you like them.. and for those coming to shoot on Saturday, lucky you because you will get to see the exhibition... because it might no longer be there on Monday..

Cambodia

Hi guys, hope everyone has had a great, positive, happy 2012 so far!

Anyway, ended 2011 with a bang (or should i say a click since we are photographers.......heh), 10 J1s of 2011 and 2 J2s of 2011 went to Cambodia together with Ms Koh, Mr Cheng under the guidance of Mr Triston Yeo an Mr Lionel Lim!!!

Was quite an experience for most of us as it was our first time going overseas, venturing unchartered lands just for photography! But thank goodness we had the privilege of Mr Triston Yeo to guide us along as well as serving us a slice of the Cambodian pie.

Not gonna bore you guys with a detailed run down of the trip (unless you guys want too....), but all in all it was a great, great, great, fantabulously, great eye opening and awakening for us. The trip, though daunting with its tight schedules and really tiring, was all worth it due to the increased proficiency we obtained and the various new techniques we acquired from the master themselves, Mr Triston Yeo and Mr Lionel Lim! It was really a great honour to have had his guidance! Thank you once again Mr Triston Yeo and Mr Lionel Lim!

But other than just the photographic aspects, it was a great awakening for the 10 of us as we get to see a side of life we couldn't even dream of seeing in Singapore. Kids roaming around for food, being happy with just obtaining a toothbrush as a present. Throwing slippers and just running in circles for entertainment instead of the usual iPhone apps and latest gadgets we, Singaporeans, fiddle with in the MRT or bus. It really thought us how to appreciate things, and people, better and it really bonded us alot through this trip. Our poor, cute little Gallery Director Valerie Tan even cried during the last night presentation.

Anyway, enough of the self reflections, here are some of the photos we are showcasing currently in school as part of our Exhibition showcasing our Cambodian Experience! Just from a few of us, will be posting more of the photos once i get 'em ya! Enjoy! :)

Liew Sheen-In

Audrey Tan (who, by the way, won the "Best Photos" award for the trip from Mr Yeo!!! Yay Audrey!)

Rebecca Ng (one of the J2s that went with us!)

Risa Long

Gan Chin Boon

Would be adding the other five more people's photos soon, once i get hold of them from our dear Ms Valerie Tan plus would be putting up our CCA Orientation/Cambodian Experience Exhibition photos as well in the next post!

Other then that, have a great weekend! From the wise words of Ms Ellen DeGeneres herself, be kind everybody! :)
