Post 200: PERTH

200TH POST!!! WHAHAHAHAHAHAH~~~

Anyway guys and gals, if you are still hesistant about whether to sign up for the Vietnam trip- here are some photos that were taken last year during our Perth trip.

These are photos are chosen as the top 70 pics from everyone's collection. Looking at this album, I thought that our Perth exhibition held in school could have had so much more potential (and space) if only people PP-ed their photos properly, achieving the best effect. Then again, they need to know what kind of effect they want while shooting the particular pic, and transform that in Photoshop later on to achieve the real intention.

Yes, boys and girls. Before you shoot, please think properly before clicking the shutter. Composition and tones play a huge part in photography. If not your photos will all turn out like a pile of junk in a junk yard, waiting to be scrapped. Dont luan luan lai. Dont play play. Do it the right way.

Anyway, most of the pics here weren't submitted for the exhibition. Thank me for looking through 29GB worth of photos, a mixture of good and (ahem!) bad photos.

You might realise that some shots were taken by non-photog club members who joined us on the trip last year, I have to applaud them for their good effort as completely nooby noobs. Even more noob than J1 freshman noob. Yeap.

Most of the photos arent titled, but some of them are. The descript is just to let you know who took the photo, and if possible (if my memory serves well enough) where.

In my point of view, the photos are very very good for J1 standard. (IF you havent noticed, there are only 7 shots from the seniors. That's partially because we are too lazy to dig out a couple more each =P) The photos in this album are largely on static, inanimate objects like signboards, flowers, roads, rocks and I hope this year there is larger emphasis of photographs on humanity (you know, like people?). So current J1s, grab this chance to increase your exposure and experience. This Vietnam overseas trip will largely improve on your photo taking techniques and the Alumni will be coming along, which means that you have plenty of opportunity to throw questions at us and learn more more more!

Don't hesitate anymore. Sign up with Elliot or Quentin for the Vietnam trip.

Vietnam Trip

Hi all,

I've gotten another quote from STA (a different vendor). They are able to put together a 6D/5N trip for S$1k. I kinda prefer this vendor as they have been used by Photographic Society of Singapore thus they are more well verse in knowing what photographers might want.

This is the proposed itinerary.

Day 01
( Dinner )
Overnight Train
Singapore / Hanoi
Meet at the airport this morning and depart for your flight to Hanoi. Upon arrival, meet the local guide then head for tour around the city. Visiting the Museum of Ethnology. Proceed for dinner. After dinner head to train station and board the soft sleeper train to Lao Cai.
Day 02
( Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner )
Arrive Lao Cai - Sapa
Upon arrival at Lao Cai, proceed to Sapa by van. Check in hotel. After breakfast, head to Cat Cat Village by van.
Day 03
( Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner )
Sapa
Walking around Sapa area in the morning. In the afternoon trek to a hilltribe and overnight at the hilltribe. Trek from Sa Pa to Y Ling Ho - Lao Chai - Ta Van. Homestay at Ta Van Village.
Day 04
( Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner )
Overnight Train

Sapa – Hanoi
Head back to Sapa travelling through some villages. Free time to roam in the market before heading to train station for sleeper train back to Hanoi
Day 05
( Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner )
Arrive Hanoi
Drop bags at the hotel and head to the Old Quarter. Head to Dong Xuan Market in the afternoon. In the evening, after dinner, proceed to Water Puppet Show.
D06
( Breakfast )

Hanoi / Singapore
Free at leisure till departure transfer to airport

I'm proposing that we either travel somewhere between 27/11 - 02/12 or 09/12 - 14/12. What I need is Quentin and Elliot to confirm the number of members who can go and can afford. (For alumni members, we can only confirm the trip based on the number of present mjc students who can go)

For those who find that 1k is expensive for Vietnam, pls check the newspapers. Many tours to Vietnam are already near to 1k and that's not inclusive of tax. Please do not compare with last year's Perth trip. If we are to go this year, it will cost about 1.8k. Blame it on inflation and fuel surcharge... Lastly we are going for a photography trip and not a shopping trip, so no Hong Kong and places like that.

If the response is not good, then there will simply be no trip.

So Elliot and Quentin, pls email me the response this Friday (29th August).

Mr Cheng

Photoshop

I don't use photoshop but i think this should be v v difficult...

Laugher break

Alrighty there seems to be a slow rate of growth of new posts here in the past week, maybe cause... its the studying season! Anyways just realised this is the photogblog post no. 197!So fast so fast going to hit 200 posts alr... which means 100 posts have been made within 2 months! What an achievement! I have to admit though that some of these posts contain crap, and by crap i mean by "the chapters" series (sorry to all contributors to the chapters. no im not sorry haha).
And by the time you read this you might already like to start to move your cursor to the right and clicking on the shoutbox to reply and flame quent the innocent guy... but wait, must read finish this post then flame me okay?*crosses fingers and hope you'll forget to flame me after you finish reading this post*

Well i have to admit i have nothing much on photog to blog about today, but i still feel that this post is not as random as the chapters haha. Anyway you're probably bored from studying all night/day (or even not, which you shouldn't) so you're online! As the saying goes, laughter is the best medicine and i've carefully selected some funny videos to cater to different type of people.

Disclaimer: Funny is completely subjective. And in any case, if you do not find any of these videos funny, you are really one stressful person... too bad i cant help you.

For the people who u'stand the more higher-order jokes...
"Late Late Show with Craig Fegurson Monologue"  My fav latenight talkshow host! Test your GP standard! If it is up to standard, you should have no trouble understanding his jokes. Very funny especially at the last part! Oh did i mention that this particular episode is sponsored by CANON?

This is a tribute to my exco who have gone through the passport photo days!

For those people who still cant laugh....
I bet you'll laugh in this one

Alrighty thats all i have. Study hard, dont lose hope!

Tips for shooting fireworks

Hey guys those of you who are going for that fireworks festival outing, me fellow photographer friend from outside of MJC just sent me some tips on shooting fireworks. it's a bit wordy la, but it might help you take fantabulouso photos! ^_^

...

Do you want to know how to photograph fireworks? With 4th July just days away I thought I’d refresh this article in which I give 10 Fireworks Photography tips to help you get started.

Fireworks Displays are something that evoke a lot of emotion in people as they are not only beautiful and spectacular to watch but they also are often used to celebrate momentous occasions.

I’ve had many emails from readers asking how to photograph fireworks displays, quite a few of whom have expressed concern that they might just be too hard to really photograph. My response is always the same - ‘give it a go - you might be surprised at what you end up with’.

My reason for this advice is that back when I bought my first ever SLR (a film one) one of the first things I photographed was fireworks and I was amazed by how easy it was and how spectacular the results were. I think it’s even easier with a digital camera as you can get immediate feedback as to whether the shots you’ve taken are good or not and then make adjustments.

Of course it’s not just a matter of going out finding a fireworks display - there are, as usual, things you can do to improve your results. With 4 July just around the corner I thought I’d share a few fireworks digital photography tips:

1. Use a Tripod

Perhaps the most important tip is to secure your digital camera to something that will ensure it doesn’t move during the taking of your shots. This is especially important in photographing fireworks simply because you’ll be using longer shutter speeds which will not only capture the movement of the fireworks but any movement of the camera itself. The best way to keep your camera still is with a tripod (read our series on tripods and how to use and buy them). Alternatively - keep in mind that there are other non Tripod options for beating camera shake.

2. Remote Release
One way to ensure your camera is completely still during fireworks shots is to invest in a remote release device. These will vary from camera to camera but most have some sort of accessory made for them. The other way of taking shots without touching your camera is to use the self timer. This can work but you really need to be able to anticipate shots well and its very very hit and miss (read more on remote shutter releases).

3. Framing Your Shot
One of the most difficult parts of photographing fireworks is working out where to aim your camera. The challenge you’ll face in doing this is that you generally need to aim your camera before the fireworks that you’ll be photographing goes off - anticipation is key. Here are a few points on getting your framing right.

• Scope out the location early - Planning is important with fireworks and getting to the location early in order to get a good, unobstructed position is important. Think about what is in the foreground and background of your shots and make sure you won’t have people’s heads bobbing up into your shots (also consider what impact you’ll have on others around you also). Take note of where fireworks are being set up and what parts of the sky they are likely to be shot into - you might also want to try to ask some of those setting up the display for a little information on what they are planning. Also consider what focal lengths you might want to use and choose appropriate lenses at this time (rather than in the middle of the show).

• Watch your Horizons - One thing that you should always consider when lining up fireworks shots is whether your camera is even or straight in it’s framing. This is especially important if you’re going to shooting with a wide focal length and will get other background elements in your shots (ie a cityscape). Keeping horizons straight is something we covered previously on this site and is important in fireworks shots also. As you get your camera on your tripod make sure it’s level right from the time you set up.

• Vertical or Horizontal? - There are two main ways of framing shots in all types of photography, vertically (portrait) or horizontally (landscape). Both can work in fireworks photography but I personally find a vertical perspective is better - particularly as there is a lot of vertical motion in fireworks. Horizontal shots can work if you’re going for more of a landscape shot with a wider focal length of if you’re wanting to capture multiple bursts of fireworks in the one shot - but I don’t tend to go there that often.

• Remember your framing - I find that when I photograph fireworks that I spend less time looking in my viewfinder and more looking at the sky directly. As a result it’s important to remember what framing you have and to watch that segment of the sky. Doing this will also help you to anticipate the right time for a shot as you’ll see the light trails of unexploded rockets shooting into the sky.

4. Focal Length?

One of the hardest parts of photographing fireworks is having your camera trained on the right part of the sky at the right time. This is especially difficult if you’re shooting with a longer focal length and are trying to take more tightly cropped shots. I generally shoot at a wider focal length than a tight one but during a show will try a few tighter shots (I usually use a zoom lens to give me this option) to see if I can get lucky with them. Of course zoomed in shots like the one to the left can be quite effective also. They enable you to really fill the frame with great color. Keep in mind however that cropping of your wider angle fireworks shots can always be done later to get a similar impact in your photography.

5. Aperture
A common question around photographing fireworks displays is what aperture to use. Many people think you need a fast lens to get them but in reality it’s quite the opposite as the light that the fireworks emit is quite bright. I find that apertures in the mid to small range tend to work reasonably well and would usually shoot somewhere between f/8 to f/16.

6. Shutter Speed

Probably more important to get right than aperture is shutter speed. Fireworks move and as a result the best photographs of them capture this movement meaning you need a nice long exposure. The technique that I developed when I first photographed fireworks was to shoot in ‘bulb’ mode. This is a mode that allows you to keep the shutter open for as long as you hold down the shutter (preferably using a remote shutter release of some type). Using this technique you hit the shutter as the firework is about to explode and hold it down until it’s finished exploding (generally a few seconds).

You can also experiment with set shutter speeds to see what impact it will have but I find that unless you’re holding the shutter open for very long exposures that the bulb technique works pretty well.

Don’t keep your shutter open too long. The temptation is to think that because it’s dark that you can leave it open as long as you like. The problem with this is that fireworks are bright and it doesn’t take too much to over expose them, especially if your shutter is open for multiple bursts in the one area of the sky. By all means experiment with multiple burst shots - but most people end up finding that the simpler one burst shots can be best.

7. ISO

Shooting at a low ISO is preferable to ensure the cleanest shots possible. Stick to ISO 100 and you should be fine.

8. Switch off your Flash
Shooting with a flash will have no impact upon your shots except to trick your camera into thinking it needs a short exposure time. Keep in mind that your camera’s flash will only have a reach of a few meters and in the case of fireworks even if they were this close a flash wouldn’t really have anything to light except for some smoke which would distract from the real action (the flashing lights).Switch your flash off.

9. Shoot in Manual Mode
I find I get the best results when shooting in manual exposure and manual focus modes. Auto focusing in low light can be very difficult for many cameras and you’ll end up missing a lot of shots. Once your focusing is set you’ll find you don’t really need to change it during the fireworks display - especially if you’re using a small aperture which increases depth of field. Keep in mind that changing focal lengths will mean you need to need to adjust your focusing on most lenses.

10. Experiment and Track Results

Throughout the fireworks display periodically check your results. I generally will take a few shots at the start and do a quick check to see that they are OK before shooting any more. Don’t check after every shot once you’ve got things set up OK (or you’ll miss the action) but do monitor yours shots occasionally to ensure you’re not taking a completely bad batch.

Also experiment with taking shots that include a wider perspective, silhouettes and people around you watching the display. Having your camera pointed at the sky can get you some wonderful shots but sometimes if you look for different perspectives you can get a few shots that are a little less cliche and just as spectacular. Most of the best shots that I’ve seen in the researching of this article have included some other element than the fireworks themselves - whether it be people, buildings, landmarks or wider cityscape perspectives.

RePLaY\\\\\\

Ohh..looking at Grouch's post, reminds me of the post booby hair made a long time ago on her blog, which i saved to some old dusty corner of my hard disk... Its time for a quick flash back..hahahahaha

before i forget again, i was taking a look at the previous entry of all the stuff that the j2s used to do during the photog meetings and make it more lively, and i remembered how the j1s got dismissed during the meetings of the earlier months, for example, when we get back to the art and craft room to be officially dismissed:

Size Does Matter

WA! Check out the Tuah Tuah Liap Lenses at the Olympics!!!

Photography Club in 2006

Most of you probably didn't know how it was when I was a J1... How exciting...

BOOKING EQUIPMENT
Our two level dry box had the following: (semi pros not counted)
2 Nikon D100
3 15-30mm
1 24-124mm VR
2 28-135mm
1 70-200
3 SB-800.

We had:
40 J2 members
10 J1 members.

Every event:
2 official photographers only.

Before Benjamin and Hou Teck's gang stepped down, for every event, Benjamin had to pack our bags for us and we would collect them on Wednesdays. We didn't have the liberty of choosing what we wanted, most probably because the other senior booked the lens and you get the other available one, or because the other photographer needed that lens more than you did. When I was a junior, I pretty much didn't get to choose what lens I wanted. I was one of the lucky ones who didn't need to shoot with an A1. (Bet you don't know how to use that cam! Lols.)

After they stepped down, due to the lack of manpower, we got to shoot a lot a lot despite the equipment shortage.
However, we are always fighting for the 70-200 or the VR lens, but mostly the telephoto lens. And we only had ONE. So most of the time, we adopted a booking system... which went like this...

OCTOBER 2006
Eunice:"Hey King, next year Orientation I want shoot hor! Pres (our QM), I shooting! I book the D100!"
Chee:"I ALSO WANNA SHOOT! I ALSO BOOK D100!"

LATER THAT MONTH
Eunice:"Remember I want shoot Orientation hor! Pres, I want 70-200 and VR lens!"
Chee:"Eh I also want leh!"

NOVEMBER 2006
Chee:"Why dont we share the lens? We alternate la."

And the debate about sharing lens will go on until before the real event starts...
rah rah rah...

PREPARING FOR EXHIBITION
We only had:
1 exhibition.
60 exhibits.

This is how we print; under Junsen's excellent training-
"eh, why my photo so purple one."
"we go outside see."
"still a bit purple. reprint."

"eh, here got dust spec leh. reprint please."

"this photo is [mounted] slightly sengeh. please reprint."

Junsen:"Look at this lousy HP paper! *TEARS* IT DOESNT SUCK INK! *pokes paper non stop with pen* THROW! USE IT TO DO MATH OR SOMETHING!"

Sometimes...
"WHA! BENDING! REPRINT REPRINT!"
After reprinting...
"WHA! STILL HAVE AH! PRINT AGAIN LA!"

And on one occasion...
The photos were nicely laid out on the table waiting to be dried when Junsen walks in...
Picks up paper...
"WHAT IS THIS?! WHY LIDDAT?"
Chee:"no time to reprint already la! can la! no one will notice one...!"

and they both ended up having a shouting match OVER the photos, spraying saliva all over... If you pick out photo salon 2006 photos to see, some of them have mysterious looking spots on them. And they are definitely not dust specs.

Now I can hardly keep up with the equipment we have... We even have 18-55 IS neh! HAHAHAHAHA...

Why you should go for SFF outing

Econs pop quiz!

Say if your Alumni President asks you to go for the Singapore Fireworks Festival outing, but in order to do so, you have to forgo one evening's worth of studying. What is the true cost of going for the outing?

In order to comply to the President's invitation, your opportunity cost of going to the outing is one evening of studying time and the cost of transportation to get to tanjong rhu. By giving up your time to study, this will in turn cause a potential drop in grades. The true cost of attending the outing is equals to good grades + $0.90 (cost of two student bus rides).

Considering the cost of going for the outing, have you considered the marginal benefits?

Going for the SFF outing is the winning tradition of MJC Photography Club. Every year, students will travel to this place (no, not to touch a black stone) to take photos of the Singapore Fireworks Festival. Your journey as a MJC Photographer will only end the moment you cross the single wooden plank bridging you and the destination. When you step onto the wooden plank, it wavers, it shakes a bit, but you are undaunted. You are determined to finish this journey.

The country celebrates for your wonderful efforts put in the last 1.5 years as a college photographer. You are treated to an array of beautiful fireworks, congratulating you for the good work done.

As you stand in awe looking through your viewfinder admiring the wonderful fireworks, you are proud to be a MJC photographer. Your passage has ended.

It is time to cross back.

You join the Alumni Society of MJC Photography.
Eunice Welcomes You With Open Arms.

If you are a J1, WELCOME TO THE MJC PHOTOGRAPHY TRADITION!

P.S. the above question is truely an econs question, taken straight out of HE191 Introduction to Economics tutorial no.1.

Angeline and Bikini

i don't believe XQ is so perverted. he is a good boy. Mdm Koh, MRT and i think so.

Talking about Angeline and bikini... here's a pic i took of angeline and the bikini babe that stopped traffic many times along the staircase and made my male colleagues wish they're not in school so they can ogle...

Brief Follow-up

Hello again! Sorry for causing all that uproar. Uhm, did not expect Mr Cheng and Ms Koh to take it seriously.

And, uh, official ETA: the alumni doesn't suck.

Cheers,
Vicky!

P.S. Muchos looking forward to SFF!

Here comes the azure blue sky after the thunderstorm!

Ok.. now all that mambo-jumbo has passed, its time for me to make my oh-so-wonderful entrence again..:P... Btw, is it me, or quent is starting to become so bhb like me?? hmmm:/.. must be a ex-chairman syndrome... hahahaha

Hey! Not serious one!

Erm...

OMG!

The last long post I made titled "Chapter 7: It Ends Here" was just a joke! I hope no one really believed that the punishment for playing Neopets is death! Whoa!

I'm so sorry if anyone took me seriously! Angeline, Vicky and I were just playing around on the blog! Arrgh!

Well, it started from a silly childish argument about the pros and cons of Deimos Rising vs Neopets, Nikon vs Canon and Chapters vs Long Posts. Well, there's a lot of laughter when we do it face-to-face, but I guess over the blog it's less obvious!

So, now with approval from Eunice, we declare that:

Actually, some sarcasm is fine, as long as we do what Angeline says and put disclaimers all over, like what the Singapore Government does all the time.

OMG! Sorry for the misunderstanding! I should be shot!

Photography > MJC

Recently some JC1 students (my ex-CG from Terms 1 and 2) interviewed me (for PW) regarding blogs and the possible use of blogs in education. if i don't rmb wrongly, this is what i told them...

"i don't know about the use of blogs in education but i have a very good example of a very good use of a blog and that is our photography club blog... we share ideas, experiences, technical stuff, outing details etc. etc... the alumni writes, the current students write, the teachers also... and there's a tagboard where we can post our comments... i feel it has brought all of us closer together and i feel we're like ONE BIG FAMILY... so i am sure if it's used in class, it can build class camaraderie"

yes, in many ways, PPC and i feel that our club is like one big family... we're like parents with many many kids... every year, our family grows bigger... and as we watch the lil babies grow into children into adults who can teach and guide the younger ones, we feel proud... when we see each batch develop in their own ways and succeed in their achievements, our heart feel warmed... a colleague once asked me, "ann, the photog club is really coming up v well... how do you n royston do it?" my answer to him was we didn't do much... we just "let them go into the deep waters and learn to swim! if they make a mistake, we will talk to them or scold them, but we put it behind us and move on. we give them space to make mistakes and grow..."

needless to say, during college day this year, when they announced king, eunice and pres' names, i clapped the loudest.. my colleagues glared at me... i didn't care, cos i was proud of our kids... last year, when i didn't see jun sen, i was rather disappointed and asked Mr T, "MRT, why junsen never get award ha? i thought he did a lot for the club too?" i have heard about junsen and xing quan from MRT even before i met them... i later found out that junsen did get some award but because he was not allowed to book out, he didn't turn up for college day...

yes, each batch has achieved much...

king's year (sorry junsen and xingquan, i start from king's batch because that's when i joined), some significant highlights:
1. prom night photo shoot
2. JC 1 passport photoshoot
3. Expose (inter JC photo exhibition)... i rmb their dream is to make it like the SYF equivalent of photography exhibition.
4. we went to perth

quent's year, on top of maintaining the above, expanded the number of schools for interJC photo exhibition and also...
1. did an excellent REACH project which almost brought tears to my colleagues eyes
2. various members won awards (not forgetting eunice's win)

so... PPC and i feel v v proud of all of you... the aforementioned may look like point form to you but to PPC and i, they mean a lot... because what u did took a lot of time, effort, sweat, toil, lack of sleep, frustration, conquering difficulties to mention a few... they're milestones in your journey of growth from gong gong newbs to what you have become... and it was not just for yourselves, you have laid a foundation, you have put in place processes for those who come after you...

there is a chinese saying Qian Ren Zhong Shu, Hou Ren Na Liang which means "The predecessors plant trees, the descendents enjoy the shade". PPC and i have always been v pleased when those who have graduated come back to help out, to offer their expert knowledge, to teach and to guide... and when the alumni was set up, we felt like proud parents... every time someone praises our kids, PPC and i beam with pride...

we try not to compare our kids... it's not fair... they're all different... they all started off differently, the circumstances are different, their personalities are different, their backgrounds are different... which is why i feel upset when my colleagues start comparing the different batches of our photog kids... you are all different... some like to play neopets, some like deimos rising, some like Canon, some like Nikon... i don't care.... as long as we take good pictures, who cares if it's even a point n shoot? we're called Photography > MJC and our motto is "Your Moments... our calling" so as long as we uphold that, the equipment doesn't really matter...

so i feel rather sad reading some of the past few posts and tags... i am not a parent myself but i think i know how it feels when children quarrel (or seem to)... the parents' hearts break...

in a family, the older kids should take care of the younger ones, protect them, teach them and guide them but also give them space to grow and learn... know when to take a step back and watch. the younger ones should respect the older ones because they have been there done that, listen to them and learn from them... but also have the courage to try new things. there are differences, they are from different generations. they may sometimes squabble but in the end, they're still ONE BIG FAMILY.

Photography > MJC is one big family... alumni, current members, PPC and me.

Ms Koh
P.S.: this post took a lot of effort and tears to write.

The Reply.

I feel appalled after reading everyone's post.
Me, personally, feel very wronged because I spent my weekend doing homework, preparing for class AND looking through 29GB worth of Perth photos to gather 60 photos to create a portfolio of overseas trip photos for the club, trying very hard to maybe, JUST maybe, get a grant for all of us to go to Vietnam cheaper, though I may not be travelling with you guys due to my school term.

This is what I get in return.
A handful of posts aimed at the Alumni.

I shall proclaim that I, CHAN WAN WAI EUNICE, S89******, will NOT condone anymore of this rubbish from both sides!

I shall bear no cost of what NG JUN SEN, S88******, says on this blog, and he shall not use our photo to propagate anything I have not approved of. Ask me for permission.

I love my kids, and my grandkids after that, no matter what they do.

P.S. Papa Cheng, I assure you your big kids and little kids didn't fight. No, we didn't.

Disclaimer.

While i was happily happily drawing cis trans isomer,...

Wiki has a nicer cis trans diagram compared to my lousy pen & ppr one:(

okay lah this is unrelated, shall go to main point.

okay,so when i was drawing happily,

*vibrates vibrates vibrates vibrates*

my phone rang silently, and the name was !!!!

PPC!

(i didnt name him PPC in my hp though, but this effect more dramatic on the blog heheh.)

apparently, beloved PPC of MJC Photography Club thought his lil kids(and old kids haha!) had quarelled D:

i said no & he still refuses to believe, haha.

hence, this disclaimer for some other beings who thinks that the alumni will really stab me into my heart or send me to the electric chair and kill me if i play neopets on Mac.

-________-|||

ANYWAYS,UNRELATED.

main point is,

members/exco of

still love members of

so very much cause we're not some politics club:D

and there of course wont be a welovetocriticisemjcphotog.blogspot.com.

maybe one that goes welovemjcphotog.blogspot.com heheh.

cause we're on really good terms its hard to believe.

AYE AND THIS IS NOT SOME PROPAGANDA POST & I'M NOT ILLUSIONED THINKING THAT WE'R ON FANTABULOUS TERMS WHEN WE'RE NOT LAHHHHHH.

okay end of this crappy post.

i cant believe i posted twice a day.

okay bye people.

D:<

This deserves a post of its own.
Teh alumni officially sucks! (Taking that Junsen aka maxaudfgihgh's post be a representation of the common inclinations of the alumni.) (Oh, and minus Quentin's batch 'cause 'minesweeper FTW!') (Sorry CF Card, you may like minesweeper but you're involved in the ridiculously childish exploitations mentioned by somebody before this.)
This is, let me remind everybody, the Meridian Junior College Photography Club blog.
Right now, we are suffering the Alumni's posting because we expect maturity, respect, and a shared understanding that there are expected differences in attitudes between people, especially inter-generational ones.
Notice that it has constantly been the alumni who initiate the rounds of criticism and start the shootings, literally.
See how the victims never make any concrete effort to undermine and demean the perpetrators? Verbal protests not withstanding, since they are done only by the oh-so-temporal tagboard. The alumni has so far resorted to planned assaults, banning, and even targeting individuals who are too, and I use the term 'too', good-natured to properly retaliate.
Please stop bullying Angeline. Xingquan, your behaviour is appalling. After officially confessing, "Yes I said that Angeline is cute and I like her", you should be standing up to this incomprehensible... BULLYING! That's the only word I can use to describe these heinous acts.
Junsen and Eunice, the Chapters were my idea. You have anything against it, I recommend you start your own alumni blog. I recommend 'welovetocriticisemjcphotog.blogspot.com' as your new site.
Let's see, in the last two weeks, posts on this blog has been dominated by the alumni, at a percentage of about 90% (sorry, attempted to calculate but got lazy paiseh ^_^").
WELL WHAT DO YOU EXPECT WHEN EVERY OTHER THING WE DO IS CONDEMNED AND BANNED, EVERY OPINION IS INSULTED, EVERY PREFERENCE IS SCOFFED AT.
I however, shall not condescend to the... childish act of banning. Banning the alumni from blogging, I mean. After all, I do agree that the technical posts on photography, the philosophical discussions, the farny indulgences, and the Histories are enriching indeed.
And I do know that the alumni <3>
Just stop, ok? Stop.
Grr...

The Rebuttal

In response to jun sen's blog,my heart was filled with guilt D:

Just because of target A & S's persistence of playing neopets on Mac,target Z will die a wrongful death.

However,do note that he failed (really badly) to conceal the names of the targets.

Hence I have decided to oppress this (stupid) rule.

My beloved GP tutor has just taught us Crime&Punishment.

Proud to say, alumni,if you kill us,you'll pay with your life!

Capital punishment is a legal form of punishment in Singapore.

So I've decided to spend my precious time to review the Alumni's rule.

And here it goes:

This makes more sense please.

P.S My com skills is lousy,so click for BIGGER image:D

Must see the BIG BIG version ah!

& if you realise,no one approves of dropping lens.

At least we have something in common:D

4 selected agents on guard,7 persistence current exco members.

(assumption:we exco are super united:D)

& even w/o that assumption, aye, you all in army leh.

HOW TO GUARD US,WE THE NEOPETS LOVERS WILL NOT BOW DOWN TO THE DEMINOS RISING (SEE LAH THE NAME ALSO SO LONG WASTE SPACE) SUPPORTERS.

The sad truth is,oppression leads to more incentives to rebel whee~

Anyways, this is not a senseless post,I've spent some efforts,a lil more than minimal:D

Oh.

The title oh this post, the real one,...

(Credits: Target S.Supporters:Targets A and Z)

Your juniors are nice people, they still listen to you.

We did nothing like Chapter 8,this whole post,is not Chapter 8.

:D

I did nothing wrong right? :)

Even though you all did wrong by opressing us,we still love you.

We can't help it,we're forgiving, kind, too good to be true by nature.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY. DO NOT READ TOO MUCH INTO IT CAUSE I STILL LIKE THE ALUMNI ALOT THEY'RE VERYYYYYYYY NICE PEOPLE WITH SUPERB SKILLS.

Chapter 7: It Ends Here

EDIT: Whoa. Ok, er, this entire post is just tongue-in-cheek. Take it with a pinch of salt, really! AND A BIG SORRY TO THOSE WHO THOUGHT IT WAS A SERIOUS POST! OMG I didn't know I could write until so power hahahaha!

Deimos Rising, Neopets, really no one in the right mind would give a crap. But if you know me I'm never in the right mind. Oops!

Chapter 7: It Ends Here

Wisecrack.

Me: It is not easy to make a long, structured post. It needs Effort.
Angeline: ouR p0s+s nID EffOr+ +0o!
Me: Minimal effort is not effort.
Angeline: wH@tS teh w0rD @f+er "M1N1M@L"?
Me: 'Effort'
Angeline: Y@h seeeee??!!!!!!11

Out of the kindness of my heart, I went back to school yesterday to visit the Naked Exhibition put up by the J1s. I thought it was a beautiful display, and for that moment I was in awe of the J1s ability to get a job done so strikingly well.

But then, I entered the clubroom.

When I went in, the lights were turned off and the first thing I saw was gunfire. Instinctively, I ducked.

I looked closer for the source but it was just Chin Chye fooling around with the flashes. So I got up again, wanting to congratulate the club exco on the success of the exhibition. I really wanted to, given that the Alumni thought that the idea of putting up a hanging gallery around the spiral staircase was unfeasible, but they pulled it off.

Then, I saw Neopets on the Mac.

And next, I saw Elliot and Angeline destroying the blog with senseless posts. Posts that look like the ones underneath this.

Therefore, I'd like to take a moment to review the several ways in which the club has turned into a madhouse, as well as the actions the honorable Alumni should take to prevent such actions from happening again.

1. Regimentation

It's really all about the uniform.

As you all know, I'm currently serving my time in National Service, as a soldier of the Singapore Armed Forces. The Army has taught me many things, some of them good, some of them bad. One of the things I learnt from the wonderful Army experience is the punishment system.

Let me explain. For minor offences such as not falling in on time or failure to do area cleaning, the instant punishment meted out is a few push-ups. Say about 50. For more severe offences, such as disobeying orders, the punishment is a confinement in camp for extra duties over the weekend. For offences like going AWOL or losing your rifle, you get court martialled and get sent to the Detention Barracks (military version of Prison).

Why do I mention this, you may ask?

It's a system that works. Slightly. I know this because having served for almost two years these punishments fulfills its purpose. So, I have come up with a list of offences and the respective punishments for them.

OffencePunishment
Spamming the blog with senseless posts
Death
Playing Neopets on the Mac
Death
Eating in the Clubroom
Death
Throwing litter in the Clubroom
Torture, then Death
Dropping a lens
Torture, then Death
Mounting a Nikon flashgun on a Canon
Death
Criticizing Deimos Rising
Death
Criticizing the greatness of the Alumni
OMGUDIENOW!!!

I beseech the exco members to print a copy of this list and put it up in the clubroom. Please use bluetack otherwise Mr. Cheng will take it down. Thanks!

2. Prevention is better than cure.

This is the new Photography Alumni T-shirt. Comes with free Jinbei lightstick.

Cliche title. But do I care? No, because it's true.

Most of the time, the Alumni believes in punishment (see above) when there is a disturbance in the Force. However, we do know that punishment does not work all the time, especially since we have so few members and we cannot afford to kill so many of them. So sometimes, a kind Alumnus like me will suggest preventive measures to help members avoid committing grave offences.

This requires certain abilities to pull it off. For example, the Neopets scourge.

My problem with Neopets is that it should not be played on the Mac because it is for work only. Adobe Photoshop is work. Microsh*t Office is work. Deimos Rising is work. Not Neopets.

And I also know for a fact that Angeline plays Neopets on the Mac despite my orders a week ago. This is the skill you need: to predict the crime before it happens.

Have you watched Minority Report? In it, the police arrests criminals with the aid of prophets, even when the crime has not been committed. It's a system that works. Slightly. Here, however, I'm not going to punish Angeline with the threat of death before she actually plays Neopets again on the Mac. That would be cruel.

The answer, my dear friends, is prevention. And here's how I do it:

We went back and created another sign.

And it's not just Angeline, I'm sure. I don't like to pinpoint people, but Shirleen, Victoria, Zhenghui, Vanessa and Elliot, I have my eyes on you.

Prevention rules.

3. Crime Busting

What happens when a crime is confirmed? What should the Alumni do to stop it?

Scenario #1

Examine the above scenario. Assume that there are three people playing Neopets on the Apple Macs and the Microsh*t PC. From top to bottom, let's name them target Z, target A and target S. Now, remember it's not a crime to play on the PC, but it is a crime to play on the Mac.

How does one react to such a situation?

Having trained in Urban Operations in the Army, I can tell you that we need a plan.

Before Entry

We will need four agents for this, making up two groups of two agents each. Group 1 is the main assault force, while group 2 shall assume the role of the reserve group. Both groups will stack outside the clubroom's two access doors. They will do their final equipment check, weapons check and also conduct a small water parade and safety briefing so that their safety is ensured.

Breaching the Objective

Once all preparations are done, individual groups will assume door breaching positions for a frag-and-clear breaching action. Upon go-code Alpha, groups will lob a fragmentation grenade in the path shown. Note: Group 2 must be able to lob the grenade under the large format printer for easy access later.

The Main Assault

Finally, groups will enter swiftly into the main combat area. Group 1 will move in quickly through the main door and finish off the opponents A and S. Group 2 will advance through the ruins of the large format Epson printer and bring up the rear of the assault force. This concludes the end of the operational plan to clear hostiles from the clubroom.

Note that target Z has also been taken out despite the fact that he is NOT committing a crime by playing Neopets on the Mac, but on the PC. This is unavoidable. In war, innocent casualties should be minimized, but due to the narrowness of the clubroom, there is no choice and target Z must die as well.

There's a lesson to take away here. If you decide to play Neopets on the Mac, people, innocent or not, will die. Can you live with that guilt? No, you can't, because you're dead too.

Here are the selected agents from the Alumni who bravely accepted this task.

  • Chee Howe
  • Kingston
  • Jun Sen
  • Xing Quan
4. Conclusion

You see, the Alumni is concerned of the well-being of the Club. We recognize that there are rules set for the sake of ensuring the smooth running of club affairs, and we're determined to protect that.

Alumni-proposed Mat Cutter.

Also, one more thing. Chapter 7 is not a precursor for more of this Chapters crap. No, this is the end of it all! Any one who posts Chapter 8 in a crappy fashion shall be subject to the swift and decisive action of our Alumni Agents.

So in the end, I believe we have an understanding that there should be no more senseless posts in the blog, and no more Neopets on the Mac in the clubroom, among other things. I'm confident that the above solutions are able to resolve the problems we face everyday. Discipline must be maintained, and I'm sure the teachers will agree with me on this.

Elliot and Victoria, please do disseminate the above information to all members.

Maxaevi, out!

Chapter 6

The kids seem to like doing this crap. So I, Eunice, shall post one together with JUNSEN! MY VP!
Say Hi Junsen!

HI, ok i busy now. back to eunice!

Yes, he is very busy. He is very busy for SFF.
And we are very busy trying to do something about getting sponsorship. Shall update you about this, at a later date.

Side note: Vicky's teachers' day item is actually very funny... WATCH OUT!

Chapter 5

Vicky just said 1 sec ago she doesn't want to join the Alumni. This is Eunice speaking, with Elliot as my witness.

That is right! I second Eunice! BUT! I heard Vicky say that she'll start her own. I, Elliot, have decided that I shall join the current alumni and will be Eunice's dog. Wow. I bet you've figured from all the chapters that I'm a little deluded.

Dog? No need dog la. Slave? Maybe. Hahaha. I have no idea why I'm actually doing this with the grandkid.

Speaking of Grandkids, I never want to have children when I grow up. I want to channel all my money into buying lenses (: Wife, children. All this requires money. Either that or I marry Sharapova. She's rich.

Heh, the first question that came to mind was "can't or don't want"? okok... That's not the point... YES! Put money into camera equipment! And must be Nikon hor. Canon is crap la. Don't buy Canon. You see, Canon didn't use to produce their own lenses! They had Nikon lenses on their bodies, which proves that Nikon is better. =DDDD

Don't worry, Canon. Elliot still loves you. Actually, Elliot could care less about brand. Can shoot means can work means I like. In the end, who cares about my camera? All they care is they like my extremely meaningful photos. Nikon, Canon, ALL ROCKS LA

Yeah but I wanna say- Professionals USE Nikon, while they only trust Canon. So, use NIKON! Be a Pro! WHOOT!

Chapter 4

OK, chapter 4!

Anyway, Angeline and I were watching soccer and then we suddenly felt that our eyes were like prime lens, cannot zoom like 70-200. How sad =(

ME!Angelineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:)) suddenly reminded that i should be studying but oh well:/ anyway, love prime 85:D got prime 200?-_-

Prime lens can go up to few thousand mm one, cannot play play.(Anyway I backspaced probably 3-4 times just to get this sentence right ._. )

:/ think ell,vicky & i paid no attention to sentence structure oops:/:/:/

Now england powderful is important, we have to do general paper and do AQ questions. Aq questions 8 marks only but must write essay style and essay's LENGTH. =(

I LOVE AQ(A BIG BIG LIE TO CONVINCE MYSELF TO DO THE SHITTY AQ ASSIGNMENT TONIGHT^^) anyway we're not listening to quent's compiled album haha.

If you realized, our post is running in purple and green streaks and in the gradient mode. ^^

indeed is the creative director style, nvm i'll check consistently that our chapters are not missing:D:D:D

You QM also not bad okay, heeeeee I think you can start collating the number of chapters in this series of our snippets of Photog. Anyway, I show you all this pigcha.
1) You stare at the picture.
2) Move your head forward and backward, I mean with your body, not remove your head.

dizzinessssssssssssssssssssssssss D: hope you feel so too,so you shall say goodbyeeee.

Hannor, this post is long enough in term of its magnitude. Anyway the trip to NUS with Angeline is pretty fun and eggciting. :D
Let me end off with one of the most common piece poem that I used to put in autograph books.
"Good is good, bye is bye, now it's time to say goodbye."
Ta!

Chapter 3

Vicky has left but ell & i have decided on the long-awaited chapter 3.but i bet you all read chpt 3 then 2 then 1-_-

Correct! Angeline is right! I am so happy to be blogging with her instead of Vicky who insults my charm, wit and character in general. Angeline is more civilized. Right or not.

Ell has no charm, wit & character after the two letters he typed that i deleted-_- crazy Ell. & Shir enterssssssssssssss.

It's okay (: No matter what people say about me, I will always be happy knowing that I am what I truly am (which is charming, handsome, witty, and good strength of character. *how come suddenly got handsome and good strength, too amazing*)

Ell is living in a world of self-denial. he denies his true self of being the opp of what he thought he is,what kind of life has he been living:( but i think the handsome part is influenced by K*******,if you can fig out.which i think we all can:D

Jun Sen has come to club room! Wow! I bet he thinks I'm very what-I-think-I-am. Isn't that right Jun Sen?
Definitely!

oh so JS thinks that ell is un CHARMING+HANDSOME+WITTY. ok maybe he has a bit of character:D P.S lousy character is still character righttt?:)

Angeline is correct again! Yay! At least my exco members are smart *very good very good*. Elliot's very good points is in humiliating himself.

Here's just what happened:

Angeline (on phone): Eh you going town today?
Me (confused): Errr. Nope.
Angeline (to me): *in a kind yet painful manner* Not talking to you la ^_^
Me: (My face is red but thanks to Robert, it can't be seen - thanks) *bang head on table due to shame*

HE BANGED HIS HEAD,GENTLYYYYYYY:D

OKAY, CHAPTER III IS TOO LONG! MUST SAVE FOR OTHER EXCO MEMBERS TOO :D

while deciding how many permutation & combi we'll have like one post 1 exco, or 2 exco, or 3 exco,... i've decided only ms koh can solve this prob T_T P&C ceases to exist in my mind alr omgggggggggggggggg(if zh is here,he'll add wth.)

Let's persevere for promos! Photog!

Chapter 2

Hello! This is Elliot's first time blogging. How exciting!

Yepyep!! See this Chapter thing works!! First Angeline, then Elliot, next one....

Robert's light is blinding my eyes. Why can't he just rent a studio outside of school like any other good photographer?

PHOTOGER LAH!!!

Elliot does not do italics.

Ya but Vicky is a character to behold. BOW DOWN ELLIE!! You know you want to. :)

Elliot bows to no man. But he trembles before women in general. Okay la *bow*. Some may not know this, but I am the modern day Darcy.

What. WHAT. WHAT. WHATWHATWHAT. No ewww no noo nononononno the imagery!!! It buuurrrrnnnsss!!!!

Well, nevertheless, my charms and self-pride is enough to convince me that I am Modern-Day-Darcy. Handsome, tall, rich and totally self-disillusioned.

*fumes* *takes a deep breath* *calms*
